Vaccinations

We use the most technologically up-to-date vaccine protocols. All reputable boarding facilities will require proof of current vaccines for the safety of all pets boarding with them.

We recommend your pet be vaccinated even if it does not leave your home. Some diseases and infections can be passed by casual contact through a fence, screen door, window or even brought home on your shoes or clothes. Some are transmitted by wildlife common to many neighborhoods such as squirrels, raccoons, opossums, rodents and deer. A few of these diseases can be spread to humans.

We routinely vaccinate dogs, cats and ferrets. Avian vaccines are available by special request and must be ordered in advance.

Kittens/Cats

Kittens
First visit:

• 6-9 weeks old
• feline viral rhinotracheitis/calici/panleukopenia/chlamydophilia (FVRCPC commonly known as feline distemper vaccine or 4-way vaccine)

Second visit:

• 9-12 weeks old
• FVRCPC booster
• feline leukemia (testing is done before the vaccine is given.)

Third visit:

• 13-16 weeks old
• FVRCPC booster
• feline leukemia booster
• rabies

Cats

• boostered yearly
• FVRCPC
• feline leukemia
• rabies

There is a vaccine for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). We do not recommend it because most pet cats are not at risk for FIV, there are questions about the vaccine’s efficacy and once the vaccine is given the test for FIV is no longer valid.

There is currently no vaccine for Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP).

Puppies/Dogs

Puppies

First visit:

• 6-9 weeks old
• distemper/measles/hepatitis/parainfluenza (DMHP)
• parvovirus

Second visit:

• 9-12 weeks old
• distemper/hepatitis/parainfluenza/parvovirus/coronavirus (DHPPC commonly known as a 6-way vaccine)
• leptospirosis (all 4 strains)

Third visit:

• 12-15 weeks old
• DHPPC booster
• leptospirosis booster
• bordetella (also known as Canine Tracheobronchitis or Canine Cough)

Fourth visit:

• 16+ weeks old
• parvovirus booster
• rabies

Fifth visit:

• 6 months after fourth visit
• leptospirosis booster
• bordetella booster

Sixth visit:

• 6 months after fifth visit
• DHPPC (3 year)
• rabies (3 year)
• leptospirosis booster
• bordetella booster

Dogs

• leptospirosis boostered every 6 months
• bordetella boostered every 6 months
• DHPPC boostered every 3 years
• rabies boostered every 3 years

There is a vaccine for Lyme Disease. Not all dogs are at risk for the disease. If you live in an area of heavy tick population, your dog hunts or does field trials, you camp, (take out ‘or’) have a cottage (no comma) or are traveling to Pennsylvania, the northeast or Wisconsin we suggest your dog receive the Lyme vaccine. The first time the dog receives the vaccine it is boostered 2-3 weeks later then followed by yearly boosters.

Ferrets

First visit:
