Dr. Melanie Blaisdell

melanie_bDr. Melanie (Bender) Blaisdell is a 2007 graduate of Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Raised in Monroe, Michigan, she obtained her associate degree in Pre-veterinary Medicine at Monroe County Community College. She then completed her undergraduate work at Michigan State University in Microbiology. Now living in Holland, Ohio, she enjoys spending time with her family and all her pets.  Besides sharing her house with her husband Nick, and son Ayden, Dr. Melanie ownes Mocha (Himalayan), 3 chickens, and five dogs named: Fin (Belgian Tervuren), Puff (Chinese Crested), Mac (Pug), Dutch (Pug), and Ruger (Bullmastiff).

On her days off she enjoys spending time with her family, training Fin (Starbright Five Card Draw CD OA OAJ) and Puff in agility, showing Puff (GCH Chaparral Star Powder) and Ruger (Peerless Guns a Blaizen), and playing the piano and singing in the veterinary band, Fatal Plus.  Her veterinary interests include exotic and wildlife animal medicine, ultrasonography, splenectomies, reproductive work (surgical and traditional artificial inseminations) and veterinary research.

She is currently working for Vortech pharmaceuticals doing data analysis and analyzing research protocols. She is a member of the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), the Toledo Herpetological Society (THS), and is a new member of Northwest Ohio’s disaster area response team (DART).
