April 2001

*Be sure to congratulate Dr. Kelly on being selected employee of the month. She has done an extraordinary job developing our avian practice. Clients that own birds are encouraged to schedule an appointment with her. Birds can live longer, healthier and happier lives with regular medical care.

*Our head groomer, Melissa, has started the process to become a Certified Master Groomer. This fits beautifully with our commitment to excellence in all phases of animal care. Melissa also competed in her first grooming competition. She finished fifth, the highest finish of any first time entrant.
Melissa wants us to remind you that she, Ashley and Kelly are anxious to help you keep your pet looking and smelling great. We added our second groomer, Ashley, so that there would be no delay in scheduling an appointment. Now is the time to get that heavy under coat brushed out of your cat or dog, before it mats.

*The hospital received official notification of the four- year certification from the American Animal Hospital Association. Look for the beautifully framed certificate in our foyer hall of fame. AAHA certification indicates that Sylvania Veterinary Hospital meets the highest standards of the profession. No other hospital in NW OHIO has been certified by the AAHA.

*We will again have the dog jog this fall. We hope to have the date and location established by next month. We hope to make this year's dog jog the most memorable ever. Proceeds will be donated to Team Toledo Greyhound. Everyone is invited to participate in the dog jog and help us celebrate the joys of owning a dog. Check the calendar of events on the web site for exact time, date location and an entry form.
Speaking of Team Greyhound we have donated over $250 to them this year. When you buy a dog license from us the $.75 fee paid is donated to this worthwhile rescue organization.

*Recently, a client relayed a story about how a cat has affected the life of her 92-year-old father. He reluctantly accepted the possession of an active kitten. Very quickly he bonded with the whirling fluff ball and became totally enamored. His daughter reports that her dad is healthier, happier and more active since the cat entered his life. Studies show that everyone benefits from the ownership of a pet. Encourage your elderly family members and friends to add a pet to their life.

*Dr Tate and Jamina are accepting applications for summer Pet Pals. We will have both a morning and afternoon volunteer session. If your junior hi-high school child would be interested in our organized volunteer program just give us a call. Sessions are two hours one day a week.

*We are hiring. Over the next few months we will lose workers from the front desk, assistant and kennel areas. We would like to hire some of the replacements now. If you or anyone you know is interested, just stop in and pick up an application. Sylvania Veterinary Hospital is a great place to work.
